As a teenager I was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Depression. I was kept off school for 1-2 weeks each month, feeling completely helpless by this cyclical debilitation.
I remember my mother driving me up and down the country to different specialists, desperately trying to find answers to why this was happening to me and what it was.
It wasn’t until twenty years later that I learned of Premenstrual Dysphoria Disorder (PMDD) and I was finally able to understand what I’d been going through all these years.

PMDD affects 1 in 20 women. Around 25% of those attempt suicide. It is diagnosed by tracking your monthly cycle for 3 months. PMDD symptoms usually appear a week or two before your period starts and dissipate two to three days after your period starts.
